Season 5

I forgot how much more short the last season of BBC's Merlin falls so short of the others. The pacing gets weirder, the fight scenes get way… I want to say “campier” but they were already camp. They become bad-campy.

And weirdly, King Arthur's chainmail goes from like, nice-looking coats to stuff that looks like it's made of washers from the hardware store, while everyone else keeps the nice-looking stuff.

I dunno if it's to show he's king and so his armor is more about aesthetic?

To explain the last bit, Arthur is prince for most of the show and becomes king I think halfway through season 4. And then season 5 picks up 3 years into his reign, and most of the episodes have like, 3-5 year gaps (though it's never said how long, explicitly) between them. Which also feels weird, because like, King Arthur at the end of his reign looks about a year and a half older (because that's how much older the actor is) than Prince Arthur, in his teens, looked.
