By the later nineteenth century, Marx&rsquo;s intervention shifted the center of gravity. Marx&rsquo;s own formulation in the 1873 afterword is explicit: he inverts Hegel&rsquo;s method by grounding movement in material social relations [@marx-capital-afterword-1873].</p>
