Terms
This section defines core botanical vocabulary, connecting each term to the relational and processual framework of the vault.
Organs
- Root — the underground organ anchoring the plant, absorbing water and minerals, and interfacing with the soil
- Leaf — the primary photosynthetic organ, site of gas exchange, transpiration, and chemical signaling
- Flower — the reproductive structure of angiosperms, enabling pollination and seed production
Tissues
- Phloem — living tissue transporting sugars and signaling molecules
- Xylem — tissue conducting water and minerals from roots upward
- Meristem — regions of undifferentiated cells where plant form is generated
Structures
- Stomata — pores regulating gas exchange at the leaf surface
- Chloroplast — the organelle where photosynthesis occurs, originating from endosymbiosis
- Seed — a structure containing embryo, food reserve, and protective coat for reproduction and dispersal
Processes
- Pollination — the transfer of pollen enabling fertilization and seed production
