Terms

This section defines core botanical vocabulary, connecting each term to the relational and processual framework of the vault.

Organs

  • Root — the underground organ anchoring the plant, absorbing water and minerals, and interfacing with the soil
  • Leaf — the primary photosynthetic organ, site of gas exchange, transpiration, and chemical signaling
  • Flower — the reproductive structure of angiosperms, enabling pollination and seed production

Tissues

  • Phloem — living tissue transporting sugars and signaling molecules
  • Xylem — tissue conducting water and minerals from roots upward
  • Meristem — regions of undifferentiated cells where plant form is generated

Structures

  • Stomata — pores regulating gas exchange at the leaf surface
  • Chloroplast — the organelle where photosynthesis occurs, originating from endosymbiosis
  • Seed — a structure containing embryo, food reserve, and protective coat for reproduction and dispersal

Processes

  • Pollination — the transfer of pollen enabling fertilization and seed production
