frost date

Defines frost date

The average date on which the last spring frost or first autumn frost occurs in a given location. The last frost date marks when it is generally safe to plant frost-sensitive crops outdoors. The first frost date marks when the growing season for those crops ends. The interval between the two is the frost-free growing season. Frost dates are averages based on historical weather data and are published by cooperative extension services and regional gardening organizations.
