roll
A roll in dice games is the cast of one or more dice that generates the current outcome [@britannica2026dice; @britannica2026craps].
The roll matters because it is the public event around which the rest of the game turns. In some games the roll directly settles success or failure. In others it generates movement, scoring options, or wagering consequences that players must then interpret.
