Campaign

A series of related major operations aimed at achieving strategic and operational objectives within a given time and space.
Defines campaign

A campaign is a series of related major operations aimed at achieving strategic and operational objectives within a given time and space [jointchiefs2016dictionary].

Campaigning binds time to purpose: it determines what must happen first, what can be deferred, what must be sustained, and what can be risked. Campaigns are therefore also institutional: they require force generation, sustainment, and political support that extend beyond any single battle.
