Decision Points

Moments in time and space where a commander must choose among options; decision points are made explicit through triggers and decision support tools.
Defines decision point

Decision points are moments in time and space where a commander must choose among options.

The key practice is to make decision points explicit:

  • define the options that would be chosen,
  • define the trigger (what observable change indicates the decision must be made),
  • define what information is required to decide,
  • and define who is authorized to act if the commander cannot.

Decision points are where planning becomes executable.
