Operation Epic Fury is the United States military designation for its component of the joint U.S.-Israeli strike campaign against Iran, initiated on 28 February 2026. The operation is executed under U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) authority and encompasses air strikes using B-2, B-1, and B-52 strategic bombers; Tomahawk cruise missile launches from naval vessels; HIMARS ground-launched precision strikes; and the employment of undisclosed long-range standoff weapons. The stated objectives include the destruction of Iran’s ballistic missile infrastructure, nuclear program facilities, IRGC command structures, and naval capabilities.
The operation’s name follows the convention of U.S. military operation naming — a two-word designation intended to be memorable and, in this case, unambiguously assertive. It is paired with Israel’s Operation Roaring Lion, the Israeli component of the same coordinated campaign. Iran designated its retaliatory operations Operation True Promise IV, continuing the naming sequence from prior Iranian retaliatory strikes against Israel.
The first twelve hours of Operation Epic Fury involved nearly 900 strikes on Iranian targets. The operation combined the strike campaign with the intelligence-driven decapitation of Iranian leadership, including the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
