Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIR) are intelligence requirements the commander deems critical to decision making. They typically correspond to questions like:
- Which enemy course of action is occurring?
- Where is a capability that would change our plan?
- Has the enemy committed a reserve?
The key is coupling PIR to decision support:
- PIR without decision points becomes “nice to know.”
- Decision points without PIR become decisions made blind.
