Organizational levels

  • Endeavor — organized, sustained, intentional effort without guaranteed outcome
  • Project — bounded effort ending when an internally controlled condition is met
  • Operation — bounded effort ending when an external condition is met
  • Repository — the structured, versioned artifact an endeavor produces

How work is done

  • Method — the system of conventions governing how an endeavor conducts itself
  • Practice — the actual doing of work according to method
